Training

With vast experience in textile microscopy, Microtex is better placed than most to offer training in these fields. Courses are offered in various aspects, and usually take place at the client’s premises where several members of staff can participate simultaneously. Another advantage of this is that the equipment used will be familiar. The depth and scope of a course can be tailored to individual requirements, and may be aimed at all levels from absolute beginner and newcomer to textiles and microscopy, to experienced technologists who wish to learn more theory and advanced techniques.

Examples of subjects taught include;

Fundamentals of microscopy, care and use of the instrument, maintenance, sampling, slide preparation, types of textile fibre, fibre identification, polarised light, solubility tests, cross sections, image recording.

Litigation and Expert Witness

Where evidence is disputed, litigation may become necessary. Preparation of reports for Court and giving evidence as an Expert Witness requires great care, absolute accuracy and diplomacy. Procedures must be observed, protocols respected, and evidence presented in a clear, unmistakable manner. Skill in these areas is gained only by practical experience.

It will be appreciated that the primary responsibility of the expert is to the court, rather than to the client who may have made the appointment. Thus findings of technical investigations are made available to all parties concerned and it is the interpretation of these which is crucial.

In such circumstances the qualifications and experience of the expert are of paramount importance.
